Hemp bast fiber
As hemp makes a comeback in the U.S. after a decades-long ban on its cultivation, scientists are reporting that fibers from the plant can pack as much energy and power as graphene, long-touted as the model material for supercapacitors, according to David Mitlin, Ph.D.

The opportunities are big these days for the growers of organic hemp, says the executive director of Organic Alberta.
“We are seeing very strong growth in the organic sector with 58 per cent of Canadians buying organic on a weekly basis,” said Becky Lipton. “Organic hemp is right up there as one of the top commodities in high demand, and commanding a premium of close to double.”
Gone are the days when the topic of cannabis in skin care was met with apprehension or, even worse, snickering. These days everyone’s aware of the tremendous health benefits of hemp seed oil, from treating acne to fighting cardiovascular diseases. Contrary to popular belief, hemp is not marijuana.
Many Americans remain woefully ignorant of their own country’s history, including the prominent role that hemp once played in supporting the national economy. Old commercials and company documents from the Ford Motor Company, for instance, reveal that some of Henry Ford’s first cars were actually made from hemp, just a few years before the federal government instituted a policy of prohibition against all things cannabis.
Hemp extract is becoming a focus for many manufacturers, who are are increasingly drawing on more innovative ingredients in a bid to shake up the over-saturated natural and organic market.
